Welcome!

My creative passions are art, games, miniatures and the imaginative worlds of fantasy, science fiction and (retro)futurism.

Here you can find the services I provide and some examples of my work.

Have a look around, and perhaps I can help your imagination become reality :)

I make

Unique objects

My artworks, miniature characters and environments are made using a wide range of techniques and materials from different arts and crafts disciplines. They can be displayed and used as gaming pieces, potentially telling a hundred different stories. Each creation is one of a kind.

Worlds & stories

My imaginative worlds and stories are inspired by history and social sciences. They include visual design guides outlining how these environments and those that inhabit them look like. These have been used for games in different mediums and helped inspire thousands to create and play.

About me

Hello!

I’m Freek, a mid-thirties bloke who lives with his lovely wife in the beautiful Belgian city of Gent.

Growing up, my family’s bookcases were filled with books about history, art and classic fantasy and scifi literature. Some of my favourite toys were LEGO, toy soldiers and scale model figures. I read Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter before it was cool. A true nerdhipster.

As a student, I studied sociology and political science and worked as a researcher, organizer and teacher in universities and art colleges. I love delving deep into a topic and becoming an expert, but equally enjoy learning widely and seeing what different fields and disciplines can learn from one another.

For several years I organized LARP-events as part of VZW Eternica. Writing scenario, making props and decorating the locations made me realize I love bringing imaginary worlds and their inhabitants to life. After passing the torch to the next generation, miniature games became another medium to flex my creative muscles in.

With The Futuristic and Fantastic I am professionalizing my own practice and exploring new horizons by creating opportunities for others to create and play.
